CyanogenMod 10 adds new life to the Optimus 2X

This is the third nightly build of CyanogenMod 10 that I have flashed my trusty Optimus 2x. Needless to say, it has made the first dual-core Android so much more powerful, bringing it way ahead of the devices in its generation.

Just some two nights ago, Ricardo Cerqueira, the Head, and perhaps the only person working on CyanogenMod just released the first CM10 nightly, after the last CM7 ages ago and after skipping on CM9 while waiting for LG’s official release. Perhaps LG did not release an official build for ICS, but the CM developer once again showed that with just the kernel source, he can make the 2X run with its full potential with the latest Android. Heck, LG didn’t even release the source for the P990, but just for the SU660 which is the Korean version of the 2X, but it has proved to be enough for this dev to make it run on the 2X.

Now with the current nightly, as expected, some bugs are observed:

  • the SD card is not detected by the media scanner (thus not accessible by the music player and the gallery) but can be browsed with a file manager
  • when vibrate is enabled, it is prolonged when accessing the power menu by long-pressing the power button.
  • probably more I have not discovered yet

Nevertheless, I can say that the Optimus 2X has become much, more powerful than it already is. This is probably why LG would not want to release the official build yet… because you would not want to get another phone if your current one is this good!
