Looking back at it…

In my five or so years working here in urban Cebu, I have come to meet all sorts of people from all walks of life. Meeting new people has always fascinated me. New personalities, new stories, and everything else that go with it. I have always had an open mind – I never judge people before I actually get to know them. Perhaps I joke about the physicals, but those don’t really matter (lookup joke).

So how do you know which people to go with? Well, for the most part, it usually work both ways. I go with people because they want me to go with them, or they want to go with me. It’s usually just that simple. You tend to go with people who you are most comfortable with.

As Baz Luhrmann’s song (or rap) goes…

Understand that friends come and go… But with a precious few you should hold on.

Perhaps it’s human instinct to just know. Biology books were not kidding when they said humans are social beings. We tend to stick with others. So while we’re at it, might as well get with the best people. And by the way, I have always loved that song. It says so much about how to deal with life ,in the most outright and straightforward way.

I understand the lack of coherence in this article, and I am not sorry about it, but before you bore to death reading plaintext, I have scoured through my digital photo collection (read: Digital. Means from the time I got my phone with a camera, then a point and shoot, then a DSLR) to find just who are the precious few. Here’s what I have learned. You don’t really need to spend the most time with them than with any other people. You just need to enjoy their company. It’s the quality, not the quantity that matters.

I was nostalgic looking at these… good times.

So if you find some common faces, that’s probably because I tend to stick to good company… and they probably also think the same.
